SIG Trailside ?

Last weekend at a local auction I picked up this pistol for $400. Bidding was very slow on it and knowing the quality of a SIG, I felt it would go for more money, alas I bid and won.
Not having any experience with their .22 guns, I have been unable to find much information about it. It is NIB, unfired, 2mags, adjustable sights, grips, & barrel weights. I have checked the auction side and find none for sale.
Have I bought something that is not very desirable?

    There is a standard one in auction #171873081 with a starting price of $400. Look at the completed auctions, one like yours sold for $664.99

    I believe that you did OK as you have the long barrel target version with the special grips, barrel weights and adjustable sight.

    Sig dropped the Trailside years ago when they sold Hammerli to Walther. They stopped importing them and turned over the ones in stock to CDNN who sold them at fire sale prices.

    There is a lot of information available on the Trailside on the Rimfire Central web-site. It was a very popular pistol for awhile till a lot of the guys got PO'd, when SIG stopped supporting them after selling Hamerli.

    The one I worked on functioned fine, the only chronic problem seems to be with the hold open. Unless your using low velocity target ammo the slide stop doesn't want to lock the slide back after the last shot. You can get around this by reworking S & W Model 41 magazines so that they will function in the Trailside or get stronger magazine springs from Larry's Guns in Maine, who handles all the warranty work on Trailside's.

    Great gun. Good trigger, and accurate.

    For $400, with the match grips and weights, you "stole" it.

    The biggest problem with these, is that the plastic magazines are sort of flimsy.

    You got a pretty good deal. I got one when they first came out, at dealer cost, as I was the dealer. I payed 379.00 for the standard version with no extra's, 10 years ago.

    I will be the first to start the FLAK...you have obviously not been out in the real world. At least you were not naive enough to add the Colt Woodsman Match Target in there too.

    Just because it says Sig-Hammerli on it, does not mean it has the same thuroughbred lineage as their born and bred competition guns. The marketing department deserves an A+ on their deceptive tactics for that one.

    Looks like a great deal to me. That is the top of the line trailside with the 6" barrel, competition grips, and adjustable sights. Its awesome. I have the 4" with standard grips and adjustable sights. Its the most accurate .22lr pistol I own and have ever shot. Hammerli makes those really really nice olympic hssf type guns. I know I'll get some flak for saying this, but you'll probably find that its out of box accuracy will put any hi-standard, ruger, or buckmark .22lr to shame. Flip that little metal thing that says hammerli on it and there should be a 25 meter shot group on it that was shot from the gun.

    GREAT deal!! If you don't want it I'll take it off your hands. You can find parts and mags at Larry's Guns. They are an inexpensive version of the Hammerli 208, only with less parts. The version you have was just under $1000 new. Standard models were over $400, and I have purchased two on line for about $400 used, and they are no where near the model you just got.

    The only problem with any of the models was the trigger was a bit heavy and the kit was about $125 to make it better (out of the box they were better then most). Very accurate, shoots most std. vel. ammo, don't like the take-down method, but a great gun.

    Way to go!!

    This is a real target gun.

    I've had one for years. A great gun. Mags are expensive and not found without a little effort. It's my daughter's favorite ("doesn't look old fashioned")...so one day she will own it.

    I think $400 was a reasonable deal. Mine (also a 6.5" gun) shoots right with my Rugers (a few mods have been done to the Rugers-Trigger & Sear), Model 17 S&W, Single-Six...but NOT my S&W M41.

    I've shot this thing fairly extensively, and while I wouldn't go so far as to say that this thing outshoots $1000 match guns, I will say that unlike the Ruger and some of the others this one actually *IS* a match ready gun out of the box.

    Yes, its not quite as good as the more expensive Hammerlis. Hammerli simplified the design to make this cheaper to manufacture, and IIRC the barrel and frame are mounted together, increasing rigidity and accuracy, but basically making the barrels non-replaceable.

    Still, for its price, its a good value, and again, at $400 its a STEAL.
