scopes in my $ range

looking at nikon prostaff 3x9x40,burris fullfeildII 3x9x40. going on a 12 ga. turkey shoot gun.shooting 90 ft.these seem to be in my price range for now.

    I suggest making sure the one you choose is rated for shotgun. Recoil is different from rifle and shot gun no matter what the salesman says,and its nice to have the manufctr.back thier warranty should you need it. Voice of experience. Icurrently have a leupold 3-9x40 shotgun/muzzle rated on my 12 ga shooting slugs for deer. Been on 4 years with no trouble,no re-zeroing. I'm sure either of the scopes you listed will do fine as long as the manufctr.rates it for shotgun. Let us know what you decide on. Post a picture of your rig over on General Discussion. Best.

    I don't see the need for such a high powered scope for your intended purpose. My understanding of a "turkey shoot" involves getting a random pellet to hit an itty,bitty x on a paper target at a set distance. Bore dimension and choking is of more importance than 9x magnification. Did I miss something?

    You didnt really say your price range however I agree with Mobuck that for Turkey why go with a big game scope.
    You should be looking for a shotgun scope with a wide objective field of view and for short range shotgun use under 100 yards for shot. Something less than 9x on the high end.

    Unless you're for sure set on using a variable this one would be my choice for the intended application and range.

    Between the two you have mentioned I'd personally go with the Burris because of their great warranty. I also agree with some of the others that their are more appropriate scopes for a shotgun. But if the Burris falls apart then I would be sure that Burris would fix it.

    i find that if i hold on a certain spot on the card i can get the pattren where i need it.the extra magnification helps me see the lines on the card so i know where to hold.at 90 ft with a 4x scope all i see is a white peice of paper.have used cheap 3x9 rifle scopes for years, the low power of the #8 & #9 shotshells we use has never been a problem with recoil killing them.just ready to step up to alittle better glass.eyes arent as good as they use to be.

    On a shotgun I would go with a 1x4 Leupold...not a 3x9...you don't need that much magnification for a shotgun.

    I have used a 4x Nikon shotgun scope for several years. Works as intended.

    went with 3x9x40 nikon prostaff. love it so far.i can now see the lines & rings on the 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch target at 98 feet.couldnt see that with the 4x scopes.
