Savage 93 in 17 HMR Question
Anyone know what the factory acceptable level of accuracy should be for Savage 93 in 17 HMR? Friend has one and it only gets 1 inch groups at 50 yards with a 4-16 power scope. They should do better than that, shouldn't they?

Call Savage. Sounds good to me. 0 -
Could be that he has a barska or other low quality optics and/or
mounts. Mine with leupold vx1 4x12 will do better than that @ 100yds
with cci tnt's
Do not shoot much paper, but it has minute of sparrow which is far more than necessary.
I have also been with people that just can't shoot, so other than
defective optics or maybe a bad muzzle crown, I would have to say
from personal experience, his is not the norm.
The crows have not been on our 20 acres for quite a while now.
The reason IS NOT from near misses.
Sweet rifle/cartridge, but go with good optics and I think you will
be happy.
Do not waste time callin factory because they will most likely tell
you what you just read.

When I bought mine the dealer told me to clean the bore if accuracy dropped.Worked for me. 0 -
Should do better.
Remove gun from stock, reinstall. Torque screws to 15 inch lbs.
Check the crown - should be showing a nice snowflake or star pattern, even all the way around.
Check scope mounts, they may be a tad loose.
Check that barrel is free floated.
If you have the F stock (black synthetic) shoot groups without bipod or sling, just using front and rear bags.0 -
Mine does 1/2" 100 yd group with Federal 17 gr bullets. I assume he is doing this in calm wind conditions? 0 -
I don't have a 17 hmr but I've also heard they can require frequent cleaning to maintain accuracy. 0 -
At 50 mine will put them into a dime, if I do my part, and it might do better for a better shooter. Mine prefers the 22 grain bullets. 0 -
Found the problem, the Savage bases were not tight 0 -
Was just about to say Ive encountered many savage 17's that have very loose bases from the factory. When that scope gets installed please make sure they are tight and lock tight them. Keep the gun as clean as you can and put decent optics on the gun. You should be driving dime groups after that ..As long as you can shoot a little ..[;)] 0
