Target Shooters, Help with Redfield Peeps

What is the main differents with these three sights? Is one realy any better then another? Do people mix and match (different front and rear)these to find the perfect match? I have the Redfield International front and rear on my 40x, and I'm happy, but if there is a better one, I may trade up. Any info will be alot of help to me! Thanks! Vern

    I'd say the main difference is in the number of attachments you can ad to each type. They all operate the same. (basically) Some shooters feel the need for things like "diopters",interchangeable front posts and adjustable iris attachments. Those are great for the person that can make use of the additional gadgetry. Quality is another issue, but that seems to vary with the individual sight. Keep in mind that Redfield is not the only name in target sights. Shooters will use whatever they feel works for them.....keep it simple.

    The Olympic was produced from the early 1940's until 1976. The International was produced from 1957 until 1978. This information is from Old Gunsights by Nick Stroebel. "Introduced in the original 1/4 minute micrometer click adjustment version in 1957, this sight offered improved precision in its adjustments cmpared to the earlier Olympic target sight." Both Olympic and International came with 1/4 minute clicks for windage and elevation. International also was available with 1/8 minute clicks (Mark 8). The 7/32 inch by 40 threaded eyepieces would fit either model.

    The Palma came in 1/4 minute clicks that could be adjusted for a hard or soft feel. The eyepiece threads were 9.5mm X 1.0 metric threads but the sight came with an adapter that allowed the eyepieces that fit the Olym. and Inter. to be used with it.

    I would say the International was superior to the Olympic. I have never used the Palma but expect it was equal to or better than the International.
