Help me I.D.
I have a bolt action rifle. It is a .243. It is not mine so I am not going to take it apart to look for any other marks. It has a proof mark on the bbl. that appears to be a JP in an oval. The J P are made into one letter. On the receiver is a stamp which appears to be possibly a horses head? The receiver is marked L57 No. 6233. The gun is blue and the L57 and No. appear to have gold paint in them. I would love to post a pic but am not set up to do it. Any info is appreciated.

I believe it is a sako L57 mauser-type action.
either barreled and fitted by a contractor or completely by sako for the JP sauer trade mark for export. That part I do not know.

While you may have a Sako L57 rifle, it is definitely NOT a Mauser. The L57 was the first proprietary model developed in 1957 after Sako used Mauser actions for it's initial offerings.
You have to understand that without pictures it is much more difficult to attempt a blind identification.

The first L57 was sn 1 made @ Jan 14 1957.
The last L57 was sn 10090 mae @ Oct 9 1959.
Value range of 500-1000 USD
