Ket-tec Sub 2000 vs Camp Carbine

I was wondering if anyone had tried one of the Kel-tec Sub 2000 rifles and a Marlin Camp Carbine in 9mm? I have a Marlin Camp Carbine was wondering if you condsidered them equals would rate one better than the other?

    Other then shooting the same caliber they are completely different. Which one is better will depend on what you want to do.

    If you want a nice shooting rifle with good sights, a nice solid feel the Ruger Marlin is a great gun.

    If you want a compact gun that folds in half, is made of plastic (not a bash just a statement), that has ok sights the Kel-tec is a good gun.

    I dont think either of them are a bad gun, just different guns.

    Choate makes a nice folding stock for the Ruger Marlin . If you are slightly handy there are several mags that can be modified to work with the Ruger vs the interchangeable grip on the Kel-tec.

    The biggest advantages of the Kel-Tec are that its light and foldable (ie its portable) and that you might find one that shares mags with your particular pistol.

    The Kel-Tec trigger is so-so, and the design makes it hard to get a good cheek weld. I think for what it is (basically a short range defensive carbine/plinker) the sights are fine.

    For pure throw-it-in-a-backpack or desk drawer portability, the Kel-Tec is the winner. As a shooter, I'd have to give the edge to the Ruger Marlin.

    The Marlin is a more substantial gun and well suited for rough or everyday use. It's good for plinking, home defense, and short range, small game hunting. It's weak spot is the recoil buffer, which will wear out and need replacing. The kel Tec Sub 2000 is a defensive gun designed for personal protection. It is easily and safely carried folded in a standard thin briefcase with a full magazine in the action. I easily fit mine in a briefcase along with a Glock M17 and 5-6 high capacity magazines which either gun can use. On business trips I feel very secure and well armed where ever I go. Both are very good guns but each is designed for a different use. You should consider owning both. I do, and have never been disappointed with either.

    I agree with the previous comments in regard to the Kel Tec, but you should also be aware that the Sub 2000 has a VERY fragile factory sight system...all windage and elevation is done thru the movement of a .01 cent piece of plastic front sight that is prone to breakage. The Sub 2000 is unique as a folder, but the Marlin and Ruger are both more accurate and overall a more rugged design.

    Ok? You can get parts for the Marlin too.......... Both Brownells and Midway carry them.

    My sub 9mm is a fun gun but it suffers from a way-too harsh trigger pull.

    There's a web site for the Sub2000 in addition to the KTOG site where fans do mods to improve on the gun's shortcomings.
    If you are considering the Glock grip frame, be aware the 19 frame is too short for a good handhold while the 17 is just right.
    I'd rather share G17 mags between a G19 pistol and the Sub 2000.
    Both also take the 32 rd extended mags.
    Adding a laser and a red dot sight would improve the Sub2000 100%.
