Help with Identification

Recently picked up a ratty old wall hanger as part of a deal and would like help identifiying it. It's a 12ga. single-shot break-over shotgun that looks to have had a nickle-plated receiver at one time. There are no identifying marks I can find except for possibly the cartouche on the butt plate. I've never ran across a shotgun with the odd side lever that actuates a typical underlever release as on this one. Any help is much appreciated.

    Buttplate evaluation:

    Looks like an 'S&C', or a 'C&S'.

    The 'C' is evident, the 'S' a little less so, and the '&' symbol is the entire surround to the emblem.

    Picture a S&W logo with the '&' symbol large enough to corral the 'S', and the 'W'.

    Maybe that will help in the research. Best I could do. Joe

    The large surround symbol may also be a larger 'S'. Perhaps 'CS', or 'SC'. The smaller 'S' in the inside is there, also. 'CSS'? 'SCS'?

    I'm stabbing in the dark, here, but I hope my take on the lettering is accurate. Good luck! Joe

    The 'C' and 'S' helped. Thanks. Now I'm thinking it is a C.S. Shattuck made around the turn of 20th century. Can anyone confirm? I'm glad it was just a throw in on a deal as it appears to be virtually worthless.
