Refinish aluminum bodied scope

Need a good source to refinish several older aluminum scopes.

    There are 3 ways to handle this in general:

    Steel tubes can be disassembled and reblued.

    Aluminum tubes can be disassembled and anodized.

    Either (or both) can be refinished with Duracoat or Ceracoat.

    I recently contacted Leupold about refinishing a scope I have, 3.5-10x40mm matte finish scope that has a little rock wear, not sure what the tube is made of, Mg. maybe? but the reply was NO they don't refinish them at the factory, however they did offer to replace the tube for like $80.00. I think a little flat black stove paint will work for me, FYI.

    I agree with Bear. Flat black stove paint is a excellent cure all for guns and scopes. There are so many coatings suitable for scopes since they dont have the heat differentials that barrels and recievers have.

    You could do it yourself if you are good with an exacto knife. tape it off, rough it up with some 000 steel wool and paint it.

    Nice job on the spotting scope. Was it sprayed?
    My concerns are adding thickness x2 to the tube diameter and doing a sloppy job which may be worse than no job.
    White lettering and graduations also need to be filled in.
    One scope, an old Nickel/ Marburg 4x is worthy of a first class job.
    My skills at painting wont do it justice..
    I'll contact Parsons and Spradlins.

    Its sprayed on bob. I have done an old Kahles and an old redfield both the same way does not affect the diameter enough to matter. Good luck, post some before and afters.

    consider powder coating. much more durable than paint, waaay cheaper than what parsons will charge you, done in a day versus done in 11 months. check the yellow pages for "plating". I had a local group do a balvar, and it came out great...$21.
