I have a hamerless sxs 12 ga N R Davis & Sons also marked Davis-Warner Arms Co. Chicopee Falls, Mass.USA

I think it is well prior to Cresent due to the place of manufacture possilby made late 1800's. Gun locks up nice and tight and though I have no interest in selling it I would like to know when it was made and present value, overall gun is 95% of new. Any help would be great!

The first HAMMERLESS American made SXS was 1885 LEFEVER . Is the barrels on yours Damacus or fluid steel[?] 0 -
The company operated under four different names. N.R. Davis Arms Co from 1853 to 1883, N.R. Davis & Sons from 1883 to 1917 and Davis-Warner Arms Corp from 1917 to 1930. and as the Crescent-Davis Arms Corp from 1930 to 1935. I have no serial number-year made tables but illustrations shown in my reference book gives information on two models of hammerless double barrels made by Davis & Sons. The Hammerless gun made in 10,12, 16 or 20 gauges with 28,30 or 32 inch steel, Twist or damascus barrels. This gun was made from 1885 to 1920. The Diana Breech Hammerless Double was made in 12,16 or 20 gauge with 20,22,24,26.28, 30 and 32 inch barrels and was made from 1920 to 1930. My reference also says that guns made by the Davis-Warner Arms Corp or Crescent-Davis Arms Corp had a letter prefix to the serial number. Value? Value will depend on the guns condition which you did not address. Condition refers to the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood, the mechanical condition and the way the barrel(s) were made. Values can range from a high of maybe $200 for an example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon with steel barrels to a low of perhaps $10 for a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only for parts salvage. Ned the gun has 30" steel barrels and both original bluing and wood finish is IMHO 90-95%. By the imfo you supplied my best guess is it was made around 1917 prior to moving from Chicopee.
I knew the gun wasn't worth much as a collector but it has family value to me as it was my grandfather's gun from new. He killed several deer, rabbits,grouse and pheasants with it...it will go to my son when I'm gone. Thanks again.0 -
