Ruger single six

I set up with my buddy at a gun show today. I had an old model single six 4 5/8 barrel. I sold it for 300.00 w/box. The guy buying it said it was a white label box and worth good money. Is this true? I made a few bucks on it and will move on regardless. Just curious. Thanks for the help.

    Can anyone point me to a company that makes a decent cheaper red dot scope for my ruger with a 9.5 inch barrel? Also does anyone make a holster for one that accomodates for a scope?

    Yep, no problem. Just dont shoot the .22's in the .22 mag cylinder. Cases will split and can spit schrapnel out from betwwen frame and cylinder.

    He said 'with a magnum cylinder'.

    It depends on the barrel bore. If the gun was originally fitted with a 22mag cylinder then no problem. If it was only meant for 22LR, then the bore of the barrel may not accept the larger diameter 22mag.

    Ok ,how I do find out about the bore. I bought the weapon used ,
    I dont know if there was a "mag" cyclinder with it from the factory

    You might want to call Ruger with the serial number. They should be able to tell you if the magnum cylinder is compatible with your particular revolver.

    Single-Sixes with serial numbers 150,000 and above are safe to fire .22 Magnums, guns numbered below 150,000 are not safe to fire Mags in. The bore diameter was increased for Magnum use in guns above 150,000.

    I also recommend that you follow Spiders advise to call Ruger to get your revolver's true original configuration.

    Sent e-mail, you know you cant "talk" to anyone nowdays. Still waiting on reply. Did receive some info from a Gunbroker member about the serial numbers, but will wait on Ruger to confirm ....

    I've called them a number of times and always had a polite, helpful person answer. Their number for revolver questions is (603) 865-2442.

    Spider , Talked with customer service. Will have to send weapon back to factory to match "new mag cyclinder" with weapon. About $120 for cyclinder. Thanks

    Yeah, Ruger insists on handfitting their cylinders due to potential liability. Still, you now know you can fire mags out of your revolver.
