walther ppk/s

does anyone have any experience with the walther PPK series of pistols. i am considering bying a slightly used SS PPK in 380 auto as a CCW.

it is 390 and change at a local shop. and appears to have been rarely fired or quite well taken care of. (was told it was braught in by an older gentalman)

is 390$ a good price? and is this a good pistole for CCW.

any general experience would help as well (accuracy, reliability etc.)

    Okay, I know this is obvious to many of you guys, but why does the Walther PPK/S .380 have 9mm stamped on the barrel also?

    Created by matching a PP frame and PPK slide, it was developed to circumvent the gun import restrictions that made the PPK unimportable. It was produced in 22LR, 32ACP, and 9mm kurz (380ACP). The primary importer was Interarms of Virginia.

    Should have come with 2 magazines, one with a finger rest, a manual, a test target, and a cleaning rod.

    Values can be best determined by checking out the completed auctions on the auction side.

    It could have been made by Interarms, or imported by them from Germany.

    Photos would be best.

    What is the range of the serial number? It could have been made by Ranger Manufacturing under license to Walther.

    In 1978, Ranger Manufacturing of Gadsden, Alabama was licensed to manufacture the PPK and PPK/S; this version was distributed by Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia. This license was eventually canceled. Starting in 2002, Smith & Wesson (S&W) began manufacturing the PPK and PPK/S under license. In February 2009, S&W issued a recall for PPKs it manufactured for a defect in the hammer block safety. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_PPK

    I have been trying to collect serial numbers and date of manufacture for the PPK and PPK/s since this information is not available. If you have the test target it may have a date of the test fire. Here is what I have on the PPK/s. If you have the date for yours I would like to add it to my list.

    It was made in France, assembled and finished in Gernmany, imported and sold by Interarms. Because of that the value may be a bit higher than the usual $500ish, provided the finish is in good condition. It is probably blued, and if so I'd put the value at $600. You may even get more from a desperate collector...I've seen them go as high as $800.
