Which Airbrush Type for Duracoat?

OK, one last question about Dura-coat because I don't want people to run me off this forum.

I have conflicting advice about what kind of airbrush to use for Dura-coating my Makorov. Gravity fed or siphon? One poster advised that a gravity fed airbrush will not work well with Dura-coat and that I need a siphon type airbrush. Yet other posters advise they use gravity fed airbrushes and they work fine.

Opinions please?

    I've been using Dura-Coat for over a year. When I bought all of my original paint, and stuff, I bought one of their gravity feed HVLP guns. It has worked flawlessly one at least a dozen guns. I have also used it to apply various stock finishes, on refinish jobs. Lastly, Give dura-coat a call with questions, they are most helpfull. HAWKSHAW

    Dang! The above is probably the best advice I could get. Heck, yes, I should just call Dura-coat directly. Don't know why I have been beating around the bushes. Thanks.

    Unless it is an older system Lauer sold the HVLP gun is not what they have now, http://lauerweaponry.com/subcats.cfm?Category=600

    I guess if you were doing a LOT of guns at one time a HVLP gun would work. Keep in mind that 10cc (or just a little less then the standard jars on siphon brush) will cover a whole gun. Will a High Volume gun even run with that little amount of paint? I have no idea.

    Airbrushes are used for fine work and small jobs, most guns are small jobs. Unless there is a different HVLP gun I am not aware of it is WAY overkill for this application and would spray excessive paint that was not needed.

    Giving them a call is a good idea though.

    When I first started using Dura-Coat several years ago I tried the airbrush and quickly found it to be ineffective. I went to Home Depot and bought a gravity feed HVLP gun. It causes over-spray but I found it put a much more even coat on the gun. I tried 2 different airbrushes without success.

    I use a Paasche model H single action airbrush. Works great. You can use the color cup or bottle. I like using the cup best.
