leupold scopes

are the wally world leupolds the same quality as the gunshop ones? if not how do you tell them apart by looking at them.

    yeah, but a "rifleman" is their cheapest scope
    get a vx-III cheap enough online, step up!
    all leupolds are tough, the optics are better in the better grades

    The quality is still nice, but like mentioned, I believe that the Wallyworld scopes are the "Rifleman line."

    Well the VX-III's are VERY nice scopes, most people are suited just fine with the VX-I or VX-II's. I have 2 VX-I's and a II(that my father passed down to me) and all 3 of them are EXCELLENT scopes. Only thing that is close or better then them in their price range are Burris IMO.

    I'd personally buy a Burris fullfield II before a Leupold rifleman scope. The Leupold VX-II are very nice and the VX-III are even better. I would suggest that you get aquaited with the various levels of scopes offered buy both Leupold and Burris and find the quality and price range that suits your needs the best. A light weight deer rifle often sports a much different scope then a target or varmint rifle.....

    Given that they are the same model, they're probably the same scope/quality as in the gunshop. Haven't heard the Wally's gets seconds, or lesser quality scopes.

    Just something to think about ... a thread on "Burris Customer Service is a joke" ...

    Most of my scopes are Leupolds but I also other scopes like Burris scopes but have never had to deal with their customer service yet and hopefully when the time comes, it'll be all corrected. My Burris is FFII with BP reticle 4.5-14x42 (markings says "Made in USA"). It is mounted on my .338 WM and has been a solid performer for my intended purpose.

    It's hard to go wrong with any of the Leupolds. Another option is the Redfield (now owned by Leupold) line of scopes. I compared it with Nikon and the Redfield and I'd recommend the Redfield hands down.

    i have a couple nikon prostaff 3x9x40 on my turkey shoot shotguns. they have performed great. i have a leupold rifleman 3x9x40 that came with a slug barrel i purchased. ill try it on one of the 12 ga. guns & see how it does.

    Wal-mart carries the lower grade models to be price competitive. If you insist on buying one, buy it from a reputable gunshop, and get the services that go along with it, that Wal-mart or any other big-box store does not offer. Mounting a scope is not as simple as it seems, to be done correctly. Specifically, a cheap scope, and cheap mounting hardware in amatuer hands, is a sure recipe for bad results.

    Leupold has been resting on its butt for years, depending on it's NAME for selling their products. Only recently(past 5-10 years), have they stepped up to the plate to advance their technology, and they are priced, still, by their name...IMHO. I will tell you, class for class...Leupold VX-II Vs. Burris FullField II, the Burris blows Leupold out of the water...so does the Sightron SII series. The Nikon's are banging on the door, and would be a sure bet if it was not for their warranty issues. The best value for the $$ is Burris and Sightron.
