AR 15 golf ball launcher
Anyone had any experience with these gizmo's that attach to your barrel and fire a blank round to launch a golf ball? Do you think they would work to shoot at deer in your garden?

I have one and it shoots about 100 yards in an arc. The golf ball is loose inside so it rolls out if not tilted up. Perhaps some tissue paper in front may keep the ball in without risking a problem of blowing up.I think it would hurt a deer but no permanent damage. Good luck. Lee 0 -

I have had one of the golf ball launchers for years. Everytime I take it to the range I get all kinds of guestions, "where did you get that?", "How much did it cost?".
It crews on the end of my AR barrel after removing the flash hider. The golf balls fit snug so they dont roll out. Just insert a 5.56 blank and shoot.
Mine shoots balls about 200 yards. The launcher is NOT rifled so accuracy is not good. You would be lucky to hit a car at 200yds.0 -
Seems like the sound of the launching blank itself would run them off.
I used to know a guy with this same issue who rigged up a fairly simple but interesting critter scaring device.
He'd use plastic milk jugs with a tiny hole melted through the cap. He inserted an el-cheapo hobby rocket motor igniter through this and hot glued it in place. After dribbling a tiny amount of gasoline in the jug he'd seal the cap/igniter assembly on with hot glue.
This setup was then placed in a metal trash can out beside his garden and wires from the igniter were run to his back door where a battery was placed.
When he saw deer out there he'd touch the wires to the poles and get a heckuva boom with no danger to anyone or anything.
He made those jugs up a few at a time, so it was just a matter of dropping another one in the trash can and twisting the leads on.
No muss, no fuss. Very cheap and very effective.0 -

As I said, just a tiny amount of gasoline, well under a teaspoon. The idea is to use as little as possible, only enough to reach the range of fuel/air mixture for the atmosphere in there to be capable of igniting.
It generates no real power and no shrapnel due to the lightweight material and weak wall strength of the milk jug. It's nothing more than an easily assembled and safe to build noise maker cobbled together from easily obtained and inexpensive materials.
The idea of using a metal trash can (or barrel) is to preclude even the possibility of setting vegetation on fire.0
