25-20 subsonic load
Does anyone have any info on a subsonic load in a winchester 92, this would be a plinking project not a hunting project. I was thinking 100 grain cast bullets but would entertain other ideas.

Anything that scoots along at less than 1100 feet per second should do the trick. 0 -
I agree that 1100 is the magic number but most of the load data starts at approx 1200. 0 -
Pick your powder that will give you low pressure and yet enough volume to fill the case sufficiently. If you just cut back on powder your volume will drop to a point where the powder will lay flat in the case and result in uneven ignition from the primer flash. Aiming up and down will result in different ignition. Adding a filler such as dacron fiber works but is time consuming and can result in powder migration thru the filler. Other fillers such as corn meal have mixed results. Usually when you settle on a powder that gives low pressure and enough volume it will burn poorly and result in increased residue. Another consideration is case/chamber sealing. With low pressure the case may not seal tight to chamber wall and blow by combustion will travel back into the action and on to the shooter, wear glasses. 0 -
You might consider the use of IMR 4759 if you can find it. 0
