I am familiarizing myself with 922r, but am unclear about one thing. Does this law for "assembling" a firearm apply to preban weapons and accessories? Say I want to put a preban folding stock on a preban AK, do I still have to have the right number of US made compliance parts? Both the AK and the stock are pre-'89 mfg. Thanks for any thoughts!![;)]

    If you can absolutely prove it was imported prior to the ban, IMHO it wouldn't need the US made parts.

    I have never seen a list of preban semi-auto AK serial numbers though. If you had something like a dated BOS it might legally suffice?

    The rifle is a Norinco 84S, which I thought(tell me if I'm wrong) were inherently preban. Were there any Norinco rifles imported after the ban? My understanding was that Norinco made products were specifically banned in the law. Again, please correct me if I am mistaken, and thanks again for any help!![;)]

    I think you are confusing the provisions of 922(r) of GCA & 27 CFR 478.39 with the (now expired) Semiautomatic Assault Weapon ban.

    Whether your rifle or your accessories are pre-ban, ban, or post-ban is irrelevant. The only act prohibited is the assembly of non-sporting shotguns & semiautomatic rifles from imported parts. If you have a rifle that was legally imported, you can do anything you want to it.
