22 cal subsonic ammo

I have a deer problem in my garden. They are used to BB's and they just laugh at me and my Daisey. I don't really have the money for a pellet gun. I don't want to hurt them just cause some pain associated with my garden. What about subsonic 22 ammo? I see it also comes in long rifle. My shots will be about 30 yards from an upstairs window. I live in an area of 1 acre, wooded lots. Anyone had any experience with this type of ammo for semi-urban pest control?

    The bullet will penetrate the skin and cause infection and a painful death. Get an electric fence and after a few whacks they will leave you alone.

    Actual .22 ammo would be inhumane (even subsonic).

    There are all kinds of ways to repel deer that don't involve shooting at them, eg:

    You could try Aguila Super Colibri. It has a 20gr. pellet propelled by just the primer. Very low power. Will just sting them.

    Shooting at a deer with a rifle out of season may result in not having to worry about deer for a while. You may not have the option of using a 22 later either. The electric fence, dog, or call local game warden to see if they can relieve you of deer.
    In MN you can lose your rights to own firearms by shooting a pellet rifle in city limits. A subsonic 22 round will also carry a long way and be lethal. A 1 acre lot is not a lot of property to be shooting on.

    Without the money for a pellet gun, this pretty much eliminates any humane form of deterrent such as electric fencing, paint ball guns, etc.

    Some plants deter deer, I planted olenaders around my property and the deer stay away, but I don't know how it would do up where you live.

    IF you have 120 v power available (extension cord?) at the garden, this will cost about $14. Get a cheap motion detector floodlight, mount on a stake that will put it about 4 ft above ground, wire it to a plug. Put 1 lightbulb in, use a screw in adaptor in other light socket. Plug a weatherproof radio into that adaptor. LEAVE light on TEST setting. Moving body heat from deer triggers light, radio blares, startles deer, they run- light resets after 4-5 seconds. They cannot get used to it- startle factor. Have tried it, works well. Range about 50 ft.

    The lighting or shock ideas are best. One of my neighbors was using a .22 for pest remediation and shot out the other neighbors house accidentally.
    Not best for golden rules.

    I would talk to the local conservation/wildlife officer, and see if I couldn't reserve a place for the deer on my table, right next to the vegetables from the garden.
