Vintage Weaver scope mount problem

I have a vintage Weaver B4 scope with a "tip off" style mount. I am trying to remove the mount. All screws have been removed but the elevation/windage adjustment knobs are in the way. Can anyone advise me or is this mount a permanent fixture on this scope?

    If I remember correctly Weaver made a steel tip off in one and two piece mounts. It has been a few years but I think On the two piece I had to take the eye piece off to get the rear ring off and on the one piece I think I took the windage and the elevation unit off. I seem to recall them being on a single block and maybe a screw was on the block as well. I remember doing this to set the scope back closer to the shooters eye. Hope I do not miss lead you on this .WAG

    Yes, thank you. Your response gave me the courage to take off that adjustment cover. The one piece mount then slid right off.

    I notice, also, that the crosshairs look "frayed" and fuzzy at the outer perimeter. Methinks this is not a good sign. Can these stay in tact for a long time or is this a sign that they are terminal?

    Also remember that the ntriogen needs to be replaced after opening scope.tks hedge

    These scopes never had nitrogen in them.

    I guess weaver lied to me and all of its service people,I serviced weaver scopes in my shop in the 60,s,There catalog states freeze-dried pressurized sealing process makes them weatherproof,fogproof,I had a plexiglass box I charged them with nitrogen.but we have a bunch of so called experts on this site (so your millage may very)tks.hedge

    Frayed and fuzzy. I would place a bet that it is the lens that you are looking through. The lens was usually not important at the edge only in the middle at least in this time frame. Also you may have a non centering crosshair in this scope this was always fun.I have a Weaver like this and have used it off and on since well for a long time. Go a head and use it you may be surprized at how long it will hang in there.I am not one that likes to get into a disagreement but Weaver did not have nitrogen in their 22 scopes, even their popular D series and V series did not have nitro and they were popular scopes.Good Luck WAG
