Ruger 22 revolver

Hello All,

I have an old Ruger 22 revolver. It has to be 40 years old. It came with 2 cylinders.
One of which is for Magnums. There is no identifying markings on either cylinder.
The magnum rounds fit in both cylinders. One is a good fit the other is sort of sloppy.

How can a guy safely tell which one to use? I had a friend tell me to go with the heaviest one for firing magnums.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

    The cylinder on the left is for .22LR. The one on the right is a .22 magnum cylinder.

    .22 Mag ammo is approximately .020 larger in diameter, then the .22 long rifle cartridge. No way will a .22 mag fit in a LR cylinder unless it's been reamed out or altered. Either both your cylinders are for the mag, or somebody in the distance past has reworked a LR cylinder.

    I am in agreement with Rufe. I would be hesitant about firing a 22 LR in either of those cylinder's if a 22 WMR will fit in both. You at minimum will be looking at a split case.

    I concur with both of the above.

    Just for laughs, I tried to fit a magnum round in my LR cylinder. No way is it happening.
