Is it possible to prevent ...

Colt Super
cycling the action on a Ruger Mark nothing, shooting cb or bb caps??

If one were to put one's thumb behind the slide and hold it firmly when firing the single chambered round, would one's thumb still be seriously injured ??

Just thinking about it.

    The aguila primer only loads will hand cycle thru my Mk II but will not kick the slide back.

    Not a problem using thumb to prevent cycling. Have done it often using .22 lr.

    Nah. The Aguila primer-only "colibri" rounds pretty much lack the energy to seriously injure ANYTHING.

    The BB caps aren't all that much more powerful. The CB caps have a little more "oomph", but I doubt they'd offer enough slide recoil energy to actually hurt your thumb if you deliberately pressed it against the rear of the slide.

    So, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get away with doing what you describe.

    On the other hand, its not entirely clear to me why you would WANT to do this.

    If you don't want the brass to eject (and also don't want to worry about cycling issues with these sorts of rounds) try a revolver.

    A 22 doesn't have that much energy. What, something like 75 foot pounds? Odds are you could hold it shut on even a standard long rifle round with a good thick glove.

    However again, why?

    Get the Colibris. BB and CB caps will lead the front of the chamber.

    Perhaps to keep the pistol from cycling and compressing the firing pin spring and requiring dry firing prior to storage?

    Of course, can you always pull the bullet, dump the powder and fire it that way with just the primer, or put an empty case in.

    Hi Doug,

    Actually it is no problem. In some training classes we do this on large caliber semi-automatics like the Glock, and XD in 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP(Striker fired pistols with no exposed hammer). It does not take much to stop the reaction before it starts, but thumbs get tore up when the reaction has already started, beit a 22 cal, or a 45.

    I dont think I would try it with a supersonic short.
