#9 powder

My buddy just gave me about 6 lbs of Data Powder #9
anyone have some 223 loads worked up for this powder?

Or know what powder is similar,... like IMR 4198????

or is this powder too slow for a pistol
if so how about a load for 170 gr bullet out of a 7mm mag.


shooting a xp100 a with 10 1/2 bbl

and a contender 16" with 50 gr. spitzer

    Accurate Arms #9 is a slow burning pistol powder used for magnum loads. That said it's quite a bit faster then 4198. Doubtful if it would be safe for 223 except for reduced loads.

    Go to the Accurate Arms web site they will have a listing of various AA #9 loads for different calibers.

    didn't find a "wc" number on it...

    but did find a date.....1983

    Should I toss it??? (burn it as apposed to shooting it)

    This powder is in a plasticcontainer but has been opened with about two lbs used.

    If you are able to verify that it has a burning rate similar to AA 9? It's good stuff for magnum pistol loads, I wouldn't get rid of it. I use to use AA 9 a lot for 10mm. A case full of AA 9 under a 135 grain Nosler was good for about 1500 fps from my G 20. It was fun to shoot and it would explode plastic bottles full of water. Unfortunately with the Glock's sloppy chamber, the brass was unreloadable toast after just one shot.
