Llama 45 cal 1911

I have inherited a 45 cal. Llama model 1911 - it says Gabilondoy Cia, Vitoria and is either chrome or nickel plated, has wood handles with the Llama insignia in the middle. Serial #997401, was imported by Stoeger Industries, South Hackensack, NJ, and has been in storage for 30 years. Can anyone tell me the approximate age and value and any other information? What do I need to do before I can shoot it?

    To give a better value you should post some pics. Llama's are just shooter grade guns--I paid $158 for a 9mm version of yours. Most won't shoot hollowpoints without some work. Only thing you need to do before you shoot it is just make sure it's clean and lubed. SOME standard 1911 parts work on the Llamas but not all. I rarely see Llama's go for over $275-$300. Enjoy it and shoot it[:D] I don't have a way to determine an exact date on it-someone else may though.

    Age can be discerned by one of the Spanish Proof Marks, which is a coded date.

    As a shooter the value is $275 to maybe as much as $500, I suppose there might be a few Llama collectors but not many.

    Make sure the gun is clean and put a very light coat of gun oil on all moving parts. [Be sure to use hearing protection, I didn't when I was young and now regret it immensely.]
