Pistol Barrel/Rifle Barrel for Thompson Contender
I have a question about rifle barrel legalities. I have a couple of TC super 14 barrels that were altered. My original intention was to have a permanent brake installed that would allow the barrel to be used as both a pistol and a rifle. Now the Contender frame is gone and I have the two barrels that were modified halfway. Basically they are ready to be threaded or for a brake to be installed. The elderly gunsmith put a piece on the end of one, but not the other. The piece is held only by a few set screws.
Now, can it legally be used as a rifle (16.5 inches) with the piece installed, or does something MORE permanent need to be done?

More permament - blind pinned or silver soldered. 0 -
ACcording to the link pinned & welded or welded alone to resist 1100 degrees heat is the standard.
