Remington 870 Question

I have a used Remington 870 WingMaster shotgun that I would like to install a synthetic stock and forearm on.

I don't know as much as I would like to about this shotgun, so I am kind of in the dark, as to how I would go about installing the stock / forearm.

Is this an easy enough of a procedure? Can anyone walk me through this?

    I have a 870 Express that takes 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. Would I have a problem putting a 870 barrel on it chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells only provided I didn't use 3 inch shells? My current barrels aren't suitable for steel shot and I don't need the extra recoil from the longer shells.

    The same holds true for 870's. If you look at factory schematics on 'brownell's' website you'll see the mag tube is shown as part of the recvr. There is no reference number for the mag tube only,that I've found yet. Hope this helps.

    Today, I ordered a 20 dollar part to tamp out the dimples from XS sights. Either that or you could file them down. I think that would be less expensive than buying a new mag tube.

    the dimples in your mag tube can be drilled out. after drilling the hole smooth up the inside of the tube with emery cloth wrapped around a dowel rod.

    Gentlemen,
    Thanks for your responses. I will go with removing the "dimples". I am a machinist by trade and will either ream or make a mandrel to smooth them out.

    It's best to drill out dimples if you tamp them out you can brake the weld on the tube to the receiver.
