1873 Marlin 32 cal long gun

I have a Marlin 1873 willed to me by great uncle. On a ten point scale, it's about a 4 ( based on condition of the bluing..) say a couple experts here in SE Michigan. While the gun apparently came with both rim fire and center fire firing pins (they could be easily changed over..) mine has only the center firing pin setup. Any one know what kind of ammo ( .32 caliber..) I should use, and where I might find it? Thanks. [:)]

  I think you are getting the Marlin and Winchester modle numbers mixed up, Marlin made a M-1892 (I believe) in .32 (firing pin may be under the butt plate)thst will shoot either .32 long (or short) Colt ammo or .32 rim fire (long or short) by changing just the firing pin. To my knoledge (limited it the regard[;)]). Winchester never made a 'convertable' rifle.

  Milke has it correct great little rifles but even though it will shoot 4 kinds of cartridges all 4 are hard to find[:(]

  With your limited description of the rifle, you might have a Marlin Ballard single shot as some of the early ones had a reversible firing pin. They carry a patent date on the frame of 1875, and you may be mistaking the "5" for a "3".
  
  Anyway, if it is a Marlin Ballard with the reversible firing pin the caliber is [educated guess] .32 Long or Extra Long.
