Would do you think?
This is my mauser project. I started off with a basic Turkish M38 Mauser made in 1939. Stock was rough but the gun was decent for $80. I bought an ATI mauser scope mount for it. It says no gunsmithing required but i call BS on that. I had to modify the stock for the mount to fit, but oh well it was fun. I also had to cut a notch on the stock to except a bent bolt. I sanded the stock down and stained it with special walnut. I mounted a Tasco 6x24 x 42 scope with med hieght rings. Im still trying to get it sighted in but I dont have the time to get out and shoot it right now. Let me know what ya'll think.

I did it this way so I did not have to drill and tap the reciever. So if I changed my mind on having a scope I could take off the mount and still have the original rifle with no holes in it. But im glad u dislike it.0 -
If it shoots well enough to make you happy then good enough. If it doesn't and you still don't want to go the drill and tap route then the other no gunsmithing option is a scout scope and mount witch also mounts in the rear sight block. These seem to work fairly well according to folks I've talked with and stuff I've read...... 0 -
magicmanml2....looks like you have a good project going here. I like what you have done. Nothing like a little elbow grease and hard work to make one feel good in the shop. As to your scope....I have killed a lot of 'chuck over the years with a "cheap" Tasco scope, among a lot of other more expensive ones, and the 'chuck on the other end didn't care a hoot weather it was a Tasco, a Nikon, or what ever...met the same fate! On the gun itself, obviously its not going to win any beauty contests, but so long as you enjoy shooting it, that's all that matters.

Yeah, sure, you could always upgrade to nicer glass or maybe a more sophisticated mount, but I think there is something to be said about a reliable and not terribly expensive "beater" that you can use/abuse as necessary and not worry about destroying its value.0 -
