Can somebody help me please
hi there, i've been trying to find out the year of making and an average price of some guns i have, its a Smith & Wesson .38 special it says on the barrel "38. S & W SPECIAL CTG", on the top of the barrel says "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIEL, MASS U.S.A, PATENTED FEB 8. 06, SEP. 14. 09 DEC 29. 14" and the serial number is 464946.
It's a revolver, the barrel is 3", steel body, and the grip panels are made of mother of pearl (concha nacar) i dont know if i said it correctly.
The other one is a Smith & Wesson .38 SPL, on the barrel it says ".38 S & W SPL", and on the side of the revolver it says "MADE IN THE U.S.A, MARCAS REGISTRADAS, SMITH AND WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS."
in this one the barrel is 1 1/4" it has black finish and the grip panels are made of wood.

You need to post some pictures, that would help more than anything to ID the guns and get a value on them. Reference the sticky at the top of the page on how to post pics. 0 -

Troka we usually measure the barrel length from the forcing cone forward which would make the nickel .38 a 4" gun. From it's serial number it should be a Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change(Also known as the Hand Ejector). If you take the grip's off there MIGHT be the serial number penciled there-if so it would make the gun a lot more valuable. If they are not numbered the only way to find out if they came on the gun from the factory is a Factory Letter from S&W. I also do not know if they are real pearl or faux but there are ways to tell. I'd say your M&P is worth at least $350 to $400.
Your second gun is commonly called the Bodyguard Model or Model 49( model 38 if it is an Airweight model) and yours has a flat latch cylinder release. Sadly with the rust that gun is worth +/- $200
It should have a 2" barrel not 1 1/4"(again measure from inside the frame. You can also see if the grips are numbered to the gun. These are prices for the USA--if you are in Mexico(as it says where you are from under your name) with those guns they could be worth a lot more due to the fact guns are so highly regulated there and who can and cannot own them.0 -

Thx a lot man, i had been trying to find out the years of this guns for about a year jaja. i was wondering, if its possible to polish the gun in order to get the original look again or if the gun will stay stained even if i polish it?0 -
Go to a gunshop (do they still have them in Mexico?) and buy a can of spray oil meant for guns. If you can not get the spray can..
Rub the guns vigourously with an oil-soaked rag. Do not polish them.
Do not use bore cleaner (after shooting cleaner) on the big gun. It will stain the shine. Best, Joe0 -
remove the grips on the snub, spray down with clp, let it sit, then rub down and repeat. maybe a light rub with some fine steel wool to help the clp penetrate. 0
