Peep sight on a Winchester 1890

Today I was looking at a relatives 1890 short. I first saw the peep sight and immediately assumed it was a Lyman #2 and went on assessing the rifle. When I looked at the peep sight again, I notice it was similar in height and size to a Lyman but it definitely is not. It is well made (solid). It has a round peep on top that looks just like the #2, but the shaft is square. The base is a round top block with a screw driver slot on the right side. And about half way up there is like a slide bar (clip) and I think maybe it makes the peep go up and down? This slide bar overs about half of the shaft. Sorry I can't up load pictures now but will later if no one knows what it is.

    If memory serves me correctly, it sounds like it is a Marlin tang sight made for the Winchester 1890, which is roughly 1/4 the cost of a Lyman or Marbles tang sight. Someone should be along later today that knows for sure, or they might have Strobles Old Gun Sights book which will identify it for you.

    I would be willing to bet it was made by Marbles. I do believe that Midway USA has an extended list of them.
