  1957, Not that many were actually manufactured as production started in the mid 50's. The reason the number is so high is that H-S numbered all their handguns consecutively starting in the early 30's.

  792,549 shipped 2/8/1958.
  
  The R-101 was manufactured between June 1956 and December 1960. There were about 159,000 R-101 Sentinels made in 9 configurations.
  
  The Early R-100 Sentinels were in a separate serial number series for about the first year before joining the pistol serial number group The separate serial number group ran from 1 through about 43,000 with a few scattered higher numbers as I recall.
