I too have been watching this 9410, prices have jumped way up since introduced. It is heavy. Perhaps there are 410 sabot slugs and accuracy has been improved? Still a light load to throw at a deer. Lets see if a owner weights in.

if you think the 9410 is heavy..try the marlin 410 lever..built on the 1895 frame and barrel..factory loads are useless unless experimental hand loaded slugs are used

    skicat,

The 410 shotgun is first & foremost, a small game (bunnies or prarrie chickens, etc.) hunting gun. In the lever platform, I would not consider it a good choice for wing shooting. Pest control at closer ranges also would be a reasonable use (a garden or barn gun).

Compare learning to shoot to learning to drive a car. If a person learns to drive a standard shift, they can go to an auto transmition with little difficulty. Learn with an auto & you will likely be an "auto only" driver till you re-learn to drive. By the same reasoning, any young person with good eye sight should learn to shoot open sights first.

A scope is a "crutch" same as any seeing aid. It puts target & sighting system all on one plane. This can be a big advantage for the sight impaired such as us seniors with aged eyes. The disadvantage is losses in speed of sighting, depth of field (close targets will not be in focus), plus added weight & bulk.

If your eyes are good enough to see open sights, there is very little advantage for short & medium ranges to having a scope & the disadvantages far out-weigh any especially for a short range gun such as the 410.

You wrote "for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out"

With a little luck & a lotta' blessing, here's wishing your eyes remain good enough so it will never "DAWN" on you.

cussedemgun..... having had corrective eye surgery myself I am familiar with physical limitations. I was assuming ignorance on my part of a hunting tactic or specific use of a 410 with a scope.

I own them (all cased colored) but have never fired any of them, the only use I have for them is they increase the value of my gun portfolio. [8D]
