Savage 12 FVSS????

Can anyone tell their experience with this rifle. I'm looking at a .223 for prairie dogs/varmits/coyotes. I'm looking for a very accurate rifle with a good trigger. I'm looking for both good and bad experiences. Let me know what you know. Thanks.

    No experience with the 12FVSS, sorry, but i own a Savage 116FSS in .223 and it is one sweet rifle. Bought mine before they had the short action 16 and the accutrigger but mine is crisp and I have had zero problems with the gun. I reload and tried maybe 15 different bullets and a couple of different powders, found a load it loves (Nosler 50 gn ballistic tip with WW 748 powder), but even the loads that were not as good were still decent..doesnt seem finicky at all, unlike some other rifles I tested that took forever to find a bullet/powder combo it liked. Some dont like the barrel nut that Savage uses, it never bothered me. The gun has held up to a dozen or so western trips (I live in Ohio but heads out to Wyo and Mont every year) without a problem. The only thing bad I can say about it is that the fiberglass stock when I received it had some "flashing" at the mould parting line...some fiberglass that stood up maybe 1/16" or so. A sharp razor knife carefully took care of that.

    IMO, Savage is about as good as it gets for out of the box accuracy. I've shot the 12BVSS and an FVSS and I own a FV. The only way you're going to beat one of these is with a custom.

    FWIW, my FV started out shooting 1/4" groups and sometimes better. Now, after 2500 rounds it's still in the 1/2" range. Mine liked the 52 and 53 gr. Sierra's for 100 yd accuracy but I found a load it liked using AA2015 behind 69 gr. Sierra MK's and Nosler CC's. That load only got 2930 fps so I went back to lighter weights. I found the Hornady 60's (and 55's) held great groups at longer ranges. For them I used 24 gr. of AA2015.

    My latest thing, is 77 gr. SMK's, 77 gr. Nosler CC's and 75 gr. Hornady HPBT's pushed out with 25.1 gr. of RE-15. With the long barrel I'm getting 3030 fps, and no pressure signs. It helps when the lands wear down a bit too.

    Anyhow, the rifle you are asking about is in all probability going to be all you can ask for in a .223.

    I don't know how they came up with the "B" for laminated wood either. Bonded? maybe.

    I have a Savage 12FVSS in .220 swift. I is pre accutrigger and I am glad it is. The factory trigger has all the adjustment I need. It is one of my favorite varmit guns. I have also purchased a .243, .257roberts, & 7mm08 barrels to go with it. Very simple to change out & excellent results with all. Would not part with mine.

    I have a Savage 12 BVSS in 300 WSM - no idea what the B stands for, but I really like the rifle. Stock fits me very well and sits well on a bench or rest, nice trigger and very accurate. I like mine quite alot.

    I had a 112fv in 22-250 and it was dead on accurate and never let me down. I highly approve of the savage rifles but i would step up to the 22-250 as it will give you that extra edge on larger animals.
