garage sale find,,,whats it worth
hi guys,,,here's the story,,,my father in law,(77 years old) plays cards with this guy (81 years old ) who owns a HUGE home and is moving to a condo because he can't keep it up anymore,,,this house is of a ranch type home with a full basement that measures (by my eyes ) 60 feet by 150 feet fully open with only steel posts holding the upper level,,,very nice home for a quarter of a million,,,anyways the first thing i ask is do you have any guns for sale,,,he said yes,i have this s@w on a k-38 frame in 22lr configuration,,,i looked at it and said how much,,,he said $50.00 and all this goes with it which was 1000 rounds of ammo (mixed variety ) and an old outers cleaning kit in the red metal container with the brass clasp,,,what do you think i said,,,SOLD,,,allright, took it to my gunsmith for a apprasial and he said $400.00,,,with a blue job which would be $150.00 be worth $600.00,,,i cannot post pics on this site,,,anybody willing to,send me your e-mail and it will be much appreciated,,,thanks,,,j3081 [:D][:D][:D]

i wouldnt re-blue it thinkin it would raise the value.... its worth more like it sits. Just my humble opinion. 0 -
hi real,,,in the pics,,,it looks like he took steel wool to the right side and to the shell ejector,,,thanks for your reply 0 -
You should almost feel guilty for taking advantage of the elderly, but he said he only wanted $50 for it. Its probably a model 17 or a pre-model 17 K-22.
I would not refinish it unless the finish is in very very bad shape. You got one hell of a deal.0 -
Your gunsmith is looking for some income. If you reblue it, you'll reduce the value by about half unless it's in deplorable condition. 0 -
hi,,,anybody willing to post pics,,,thanks 0 -
j3081....let's see. I buy (steal?) a valuable Smith .22 (K17 or K22) that could be worth $1k or more and take it to my gunsmith. He advises me that it could be worth $400 and it should be reblued. Reblued??? And destroy the value? What he smokin'? Must be looking for some reblue business. Reblueing hardly ever enhances value but usually makes it go south. Leave it alone, send us some photos so we can tell you what you got. And, congrats, "chance favors the prepared mind." 0 -

Gunsmith does want money so just keep it as is. 0 -
Give it a good cleaning. And enjoy as is till you have time to shoot it and think about the many options you have. 0
