Russian 91/30 1933
I have a 91/30 it is marked 1933. I would like to find a little more info about it. The front sight post has no hood I cannot find one that also does not.
I do have to hooded bayonet I purchased with the rifle. I paid a little extra for bayonet because it is odd.

You might check out the website www.russian-mosin-nagant.com You will find there photos and descriptions of almost every model and variant of the rifle Mosin. The Model 91/30 was the Great Patriotic War (WWII) standard issue model, and there were literally millions of them made. And the Soviet Union was always somewhat impoverished, and they made use of what they had on hand when necessary, before and during the war. It's not too difficult to imagine a Russian armory using up a supply of older-model front sights, but that is only my supposition. I assume you mean there is no place a hood was attached to the front sight of your rifle, in the manner of the older Mosin rifles. I don't understand your reference to "hooded bayonet"... 0 -

Hood for front sight on bayonet? I have never seen, or heard of, that type of Mosin bayonet with sight hood. I had to go down to my gun room and look again at my Mosin rifles and bayonets! They all mount the same (excepting my M-44, with bayonet permanently attached and pivoting to the side): slide onto barrel and turn 90 degrees to lock on with spring-loaded latch; interfaces with and locks onto front sight, with or without hood. If no one here on Gunbroker forums comes back with any info, this would be a great question to ask on the above-mentioned web-site forum. They have guys on there that would know. 0 -
I think its a Panshin Bayonet but not a Dragoon rifle it is a octogan reciever though. 0 -
The Panshin Bayonet was Developed for Dragoon rifles to protect the sight in a mounted bayonet charge. It was discontinued in the 30's when the hooded sight was adopted. Most Panshin's were converted to a 91/30 bayo profile. An intact Panshin is a rare find.
Your bayo is probably worth more than the rifle.
By chance, does your rifle receiver have the Finn capture boxed "SA" on it?0 -
Where exactly should I look for the SA. I have went to a couple Mosin Sights but nothing shows my configuration. The bolt and upper numbers match. The wood looks to replaced on stock but upper wood over barrel could be orginal. I know its not my K98 or anything but I didnt realize there was so many different types. That would be cool if bayonet is worth something I did pay 3 for rifle. I know it was over priced but it was odd and I figured I would take a chance. 0 -
avigod56...if it is a Finn the SA will be on top of the receiver. The Finns captured a ton of Russian stuff in the Winter War and rearsenaled much of it. Many got new stocks and barrels, but lots did not. If you have one of those they typically are worth more than the standard Russian rifle. Sounds like you have an interesting bayonet! 0 -
Pictures of the rifle and bayo would be a big help! Especially all the markings. Highlighting them with white chalk makes them easier to see in photos.
A friend of mine has this bayo website, if you email Ralph with pics of it, he will probably overload you with info on it, and tell you what it's worth.

I dont know how to load pictures onto board. By the pictures on web site its a 1891/30 Panshin. The one I have is in much better shape I will check out the SA when I get home today. I could take some pictures and email them if you guys would like. I have the rifle broke down now. I wanted to find a better wood for it. 0 -
