counter sniper optics
i see sportsman's guide has a run of these scopes in the last few magazines ive received. has anyone have any experience with this brand?
the ad says they may or may not be us govt marked, and resale value is over 2 grand. if anyone wants to look it up its part #exx-163771.
think it looks like a good deal?

If it doesn't say Schmidt and Bender on it, its not worth 2 grand...0 -

There was another thread on this very same thing, not all that long ago...look it up. If you want to spend $600.00, spend it on a Burris Signature Select or Black diamond, and know the quality you are getting! Don't guess.0 -

I had somehow thought you had seen those previous posts about these.
They are POS's from China and aren't worth the powder to blow them up. In one of the previous posts I mentioned how one went bad on my .243. But I only paid $150 for it. Not a lot but enough to tell me don't buy Chinese when you buy optics. Unless you are simply willing to throw a much lower dollar amount down the drain. Because that is where it will end up.
The term counter-sniper was in fact an actual thing. It was in reference to those people dedicated to guarding compounds such as an embassy or camp (firebase), where an enemy sniper could do a lot of damage. Typically they employed larger scopes of higher power that weren't so well suited to low crawling in thick foliage. But, better suited to finding small inconsistencies in the wood-line or a tree. For all intents and purposes the term is outdated. When employed on a rifle it would in fact be a sniper looking for snipers or enemy reconnaissance.
Sniper and counter-sniper have become the biggest marketing buzzwords around. Followed closely by tactical.
Don't be fooled by a scopes title before you look at which grade by which manufacturer it was made by first. Know your scopes before you buy. Leupold is still providing MK4's to the military. Other manufacturers are providing 'tactical' scopes for one unit or another. The Marine's are currently using the Schmidt & Bender. Although I heard that contract is now let out to Premier Reticles.
Quality is a lot more in the Name-brand than in the name of the scope. 'Tactical', 'Sniper', and 'Counter-sniper' all mean nothing if there isn't quality with the manufacturer.0 -

nope hadn't seen those postings before. sorry for dragging up an old topic. thanks everyone for all the advice/info on them. i was skeptical to begin with you pretty much just confirmed those suspicions. thanks to all that posted.0 -

Don't be sorry for asking a question. A lot of times the ones not asked are the ones needing to be asked. In the case of these, you'd maybe think it's an isolated sale. Therefore a quick question can possibly more easily solve your problem than spending an hour or so doing a search.
So better you ask this question than us let you go on and buy one of those scopes[;)]0
