Can you tell me if a 586 barrel will work on a 19-3 frame?
I only ask because I need to put another barrel on my 19, and I am partial to the full underlug.

  I'll bet they will, same frame size just a longer cylinder. the 'K' frame uses the same barrel shank & thread all the way from the M&P to the latest ones.

  But would the extrator rod housing be compatible with the 19 extractor rod?

  a 19-3 was a pinned barrel, the 586 was not, press-fit IIRC.
  
  you might run into a prob there, not sure.

  I doubt it. The 586 is a"L" frame and the 19 is a "K" frame. S&W made the "L" frames bigger as a steady diet of full house 357,s were hurting the 19,s barrels.
