Sorry 1st, proofhouse.com doesn't list S&W.
I am away from my books but it looks like a .38 Single Action Second Model, made in the 1880s or 1890s.
Looks in nice condition and longer barrel than most. But I won't guess a dollar value.0 -

Looks like you have a .38 Single Action 2nd model made about 1879. These were made with several barrel lengths 3-1/4", 4", 5", and scarce 6". Yours looks to be a 6".
Value could be anywhere from $250 to $700 depending on condition. If thats the original nickel on your gun, it could possibly rate over $500.0
