Kel-tec Sub2000 40 caliber
I had a chance to fire one of these at the range yesterday. Between the two of us, we fired over 100 rounds of 165 FMJ ammo without a single jam or hiccup. I was impressed. At 20-25 yards, the sights were dead on, when we moved back to 50 yards, we had to hold slightly below the target to score a hit. We were using Glock 15 round model 22 magazines and they worked perfectly. We did not have any hollow point ammo to try, has anyone used hollow point ammo in the Sub 2000? Any problems? Has anyone chronographed the velocity gain out of the 16" barrel? Is it significant? I have a load of Beretta 92 mags, so I may try to find one in 9mm that takes beretta magazines.

I've only shot the 9mm version.
My impression was that the trigger was pretty poor. . .kind of long, heavy and gritty, though that will probably break in with lots of firing or could be cleaned up a bit.
Despite that, the bright orange front post and peep sight made it pretty easy to shoot accurately at 25 yards. Even with the plasticky construction, I think I'd rather have one of these in a fight than an ordinary pistol.
In terms of velocity gain, 9mm luger was designed from it inception as a smokeless powder round using fast-burning powders. So unlike the usual revolver rounds, you actually do NOT get all that much more velocity from a carbine than you do from the pistol.
My understanding is that you can squeeze out about another 100fps with a typical 115 or 124 grain load from a 16" bbl vs the standard 5" service pistol barrel. That's not nothing, but its certainly not a lot. I'd bet you'd probably top out velocity-wise with a barrel considerably shorter than 16", though you need that length for legal reasons.
You may be able to get a little more yet with super hot +P+ loads, though I don't think firing those sorts of loads from the Kel Tec is a good idea.
I can't speak to differences with .40SW, but I'd imagine its more or less the same; I doubt you're going to get much better velocities with the carbine over a service pistol.0 -
I have the Sub 2000 in .40. As soon as the weather dries up and warms up, I'm going to get out my chronograph and see what my newest reloads will do. I will also have my XD40SD there and shoot the same rounds with it. I will have both FMJ and JHP ammo. If I think of it, I will also include some factory ammo for comparison. Hopefully That will happen towards the end of this week. If I remember I will post some results. 0 -

To match my G19,I bought the Sub2000 in 9mm taking Glock 17mags and extended 30 rounders.
It's handy and a first class plinker that consumed a variety of reloads and a few +P+s without a jam.
I've read heavier bullets like 124 and 148 grainers range better than 115 grainers.
CDNN and Cheaper Than Dirt offer Korean copies of Glock mags that are flawless and cheap.The gun comes with a useless 10 rd mag.
At 4 1/4 lbs empty it's a viable contender for a bug out gun.
A red dot or laser sight would be a major improvement as it's hard and slow for me to force my face into the gun to get to the sights.0
