Winchester 50 Duck Bill Skeet Gun

I just bought a Winchester Model 50 20 Ga skeet shotgun sight-unseen from a friend of a friend. I got an accurate description before the purchase and the gun, now that it's in my hands, accurately matches the description except for one thing. The gun has a Winchester Trap Ramp, or what's commonly called a duck bill, on the receiver. Accordingly, the Simmons vent rib is raised considerably to align with the duck bill. My friend and the seller don't know much about shotguns, so it didn't occur to them to mention the trap ramp. Now, I don't mind the duck bill, but it's the first Model 50 of any type I've seen with one. I've seen lots of Model 12s with this option, but never a 50.

Here's what I'm wondering. Was the duck bill available from the factory on the Model 50 or would this likely be an aftermarket add on? Does the duck bill add or detract from this gun's value? The gun is an early production model and in about 95% condition. Any other thoughts on this unusual option?

    I have never heard of a 50 with the duck bill either. I started researching last night and cannot find any reference to it. As perry shooter said, bobski would be the guy to ask. Looking foward to hearing his opinion on this.

    Bert H. Is VERY knowledgeable about Winchester but doesn't seem to visit here much anymore. You might ask this question on the Winchester collectors forum. I see he still frequents and answers questions there. If the duck bill is factory and that can be documented it should add considerable value. You might wish to check with the firearms records in the Cody museum. A simple internet search will provide you with information on how to accomplish this. Good luck. Bob

    Likely to my way of thinking. The Duck Bill was added to mate up with the Simmons rib. Specially it being on a open choked, skeet 20 gauge barrel. Custom work, done for a skeet or upland birds shooter. You never can say never about anything. Just don't see Winchester doing custom work of this sort.

    I can ask some of the guys at the trap club this weekend. (Or next weekend, supposed to be 6 degrees Saturday and few will venture out, and this would go to a couple guys in their mid70s and up!)

    I agree with Rufe, I've seen them on the Model 12 Pigeon, but never on a Model 50. That said, Winchester did all kinds of one off special orders, but highly doubtful with a Simmons rib.
