RE: Colt Python how to clean the stein on Cylinder

First of all, thank you. I have a Colt Python serial # 4958X (the X is to protect security). Do you know what year was made ? Also do you know if this Python has a "Nickel" finish or "Bright Stainless steel" finish ?
How to clean it without damaging it: This python has an "smoke or black stein" on the other side of the cylinder (not where the pin strike), that you'll get for shooting the gun many times. Could I use "Gun Scrubber" to take that black stein off without damaging the Python finish ? Or what else I could use to clean it ?
I know that if it has a "nickel" finish you'll treat it different then if it was "bright steinless steel". Please let me know what will be the best to take that stein out and also if you know when this gun was made. Thank you very much.

I clean my "steins" with water and a copper pad.
Nothing else.

first, welcome!
there should be a letter prefix or suffix to the serial #. let me know what it is and i'll give you the DOB.
please don't use gun scrubber on your python!

"IF" your Python has no letter prefixs (check it again) then you should have a 1965 "nickle finished" gun, with standard sight, and checkered walnut grip (if everything is original). If this seems to be right I would get a letter on it is a desirble gun. Condition is very important but in 98% it should be at $1250 or maybe more. And if it is excellent conditon and is truly earlier than 1966, IMHO it would be a great find if you paid less than that. 0 -
I use the lead removing chemical permeated yellow cloth that you find at any gun store in this area. It will clean the face of the cylinder, around the reducing cone, Its a lots of hand work it does an outstanding job and gets the revolver really clean. I also make patches out of this and run it through the barrel. Sorry I cannot remember the name!

I have the same yellow cleaner. Its called Silencio LEAD-WIPE gun cleaning cloth. A quick internet search revealed no results so I don't know if it is still available. I did find something at Brownells that looks similar.
