Condition for condition, the pre-war "long tang" will bring a higher sale price.

There were several different rear sight options available for the Model 71. The standard was a barrel mounted (in a dovetail) open rear sight. A bolt mounted peep sight could have been ordered, or a receiver mounted peep sight could have been ordered (early rifles will have a Lyman No. 56, later rifles a Lyman No. 66). There were two variations of the bolt peep sight... the first was fastened with a single screw, the second with two screws.

Mr. BH: Thanks very much for your time and info! One more question - Is there an ending/starting S/N for the long to short tang ( I know Winchester didn't keep the best of books ) Just a ballpark number. Have a Good weekend! Thanks Again!
