    no you cannot--but in SOME .22 Long guns you can also shoot .22 Shorts-sometimes the barrel will be marked as so. Single shot's, some pump's and some leverguns mainly would have no trouble shooting .22 shorts--I'm assuming you are having trouble finding .22 Longs which hardly anyone uses anymore and guns made in that caliber haven't been made in years.

    If you go to www.ammoengine.com you can plug in just about any ammo including rimfire and it will give you prices and availability of where you can buy online. So far the only place that had any .22 Longs is Ammo Depot.

    cci makes it it is a 22 case with a 29gr bullet

    What's the action? Rechambering might be an option; or, if it has collector value, you might just sell it and get something similar in an L.R. chambering.

    The 22 Long and 22 Long Rifle share the same case length, but the cartridge OAL is shorter for the 22 Long due to the smaller 29-grain bullet versus the longer 40-grain bullet used in the standard 22 Long Rifle cartridge.

    Some (but not all) of the older 22 Long chambers will accept the slightly longer 22 Long Rifle cartridge. There is no danger in shooting a 22 LR in a 22 Long chambered gun, but the accuracy will suffer significantly due to the rifling twist rate not being fast enough to stabilize the heavier 40-grain bullet. Winchester used a 1:20 twist rate for the 22 Long, and a 1:16 twist rate for the 22 LR.

    That helps me as well. I have a model 90 in 22 long. So I can shoot the 22 LR but it just wont be very accurate? Mine was made in the late 30s.

    Rex, you can install a 22 short carrier in your model 90 or modify your own carrier to use shorts. accuracy will be fine because the twist is correct for either longs or shorts.

    The only way you can shoot a 22 LR in your rifle is to single feed them (if the chamber will accept them). The cartridge carrier on the Model 1890(90) is cartridge specific, and as such, your rifle will not properly cycle & feed with 22 LR.
