Optics and eye relief
Does eye relief change from person to person for the same scope? I find that most scopes don't have enough, maybe its me or I like to have my head farther back.
Also, does it vary with magnification? Like a 3-12 scope will have less at 12 power than 7.
I would like to find a relatively inexpensive 2-7 power scope with 4.5-5" of eye relief. I have one with short eye relief on a Savage 99 that I have to stretch my neck for. My mouth rests on my thumb and it hits my lip on recoil. More annoying than anything.

Yes, there can be differences such as you described and as you dial up lose a bit of length. Having the "old gun habit" to include a Savage 99 (300 Savage) and being on the long limbed side (+18" LOP is fine by me) I tend to use the older steel Weavers because they have lots of eye relief.
The Leupold Rifleman line, the Nikon Prostaff and Burris Timberline all have scopes with very long eye relief and I use them on 375s, 416s and 458s - they're all under $200.00.
Something a little different. Nikon makes a 2 to 7X shotgun scope with at least 5" of eye relief. Bbeing a shotgun scope the parallax is set at 75 yds, but it is otherwise the same as a rifle scope. I have one and it has all the eye relief you'll ever need.

Eye releif is the same for each person but varies with the scope. Most modern scopes for eye safety are 4-5 inches. The relief is listed with scope data when you shop it.
Always wear glasses when you shoot so you dont come out looking like a losing prize fighter from lack of scope relief!
There are lots of good scopes out there Natchez has a good selection as well as cabellas.

I shoot the same way as yo have short neck . Most older scopes are longer and allow you to move the scope with in the rings further. [^] However newer scopes only have 1/2 inch or so adjustments when rings are in place I found rings with offset front to back work well for me . YMMV 0 -

No, eye relief is a function of the scope; it shouldn't change between shooters.
Yes, eye relief will vary between different magnifications in the same scope, and IIRC, in general you lose some eye relief as you go up in magnification.
I can't help you with specific eye relief of particular brands, but they do vary a little, and you should be able to check out different ones to find one with a bit more eye relief that you like.
Of course you could always go with a long eye relief "scout" type setup if you want REALLY long eye relief, but that sort of setup has a number of drawbacks, and personally, I think a standard setup is better for most applications.0 -
