Colt Lightning Rifle 32 Cal
Hello Again,
After all the great feedback I received after postings about my M1 Carbine, Kar98k, and Springfield 1903 I had to return to the experts to post my latest find. I was cleaning out the remnants of a gun collection passed along to me years ago when I cam across a beautiful Colt Lightning Medium Frame .32 Cal rifle. The gun is in AWESOME condition considered it was manufactured in 1898. The finish is in fairly good condition, and the action works great! The serial number is 836XX. The insignia (Colt) on the side of the gone is fairly visible. The barrel and bore are in good condition, with the top of the rifle still beautifully stamped with the 32 Cal, and Colt's patent information. I had to take pictures of the rifle with my iPhone, so they are okay but not great. I am getting a new camera soon and should post some pictures with greater detail. I have seen prices on this type of gun from anywhere from $750 to $7,000 on the internet so I was trying to see if I could get an opinion from yall. Hello from the pictures your rifle looks to be on the Lower end as to value . I know the rifle is 120+ years old but IMHO not awesome condition . If you look at Cabela's gun library they have some Higher value Colt Lightnings you can compare to yours . I like to shoot my colt rifles but they are harder to work on and many have worn disconnector making unsafe to fire. A test for this condition is with rifle unloaded cycle the action without pulling the trigger try to cycle the action again if the forearm will go back this gun is unsafe to shoot. The correct"SAFE " gun will once the hammer is cocked not allow the slide to function again until the hammer is down . One other note many of the 32/20 barrels are oversize and Current bullets will be loose in the bore won't hold a 12 inch group at 25 yards with factory ammo. 0
