What is the future of the 327? I saw a Taurus 327 at a gun show. I like the idea, but will it stay?

Lever guns in pistol calibers other than the very most popular ones (eg .357 and .44 magnum, 45 Colt) generally don't sell much, and market for this round is still reasonably small. Marlin and Winchester USED to put out .32-20 lever guns, but haven't made any in years. What does that say?
The .327 round is being marketed as a defensive round, and so far most of the guns chambered for it are snubnose revolvers. Ruger (which introduced the round) does now offer it in 7 shot versions in its medium-frame gp100 and single-action Blackhawk revolvers.
Ballistically, the round is on a par with 9mm luger +P (only the ammo is harder to find, uses a smaller caliber and/or lighter weight bullet, and is more expensive).
From my perspective, the only real advantage of this round over .357 is that you can cram one more round of it into a snubnose revolver. If I want 7 shots of .357 in a medium revolver those are already available (eg Smith 686+). If 357 seemed too much for me, I could always find a weaker load. . . .LOTS of .357 loadings are available.
So, IMO one more round in a J-frame sized gun just isn't enough of an advantage to justify me getting one. I could maybe see getting this if you're already a fan of .32 caliber rounds and reload for them, since this will give you a little more versatility in terms of max power.
In a lever-gun, where tubular magazine capacity is determined by overall cartridge length, capacity of this round isn't going to be much (or even ANY) different than an ordinary .38/.357 levergun. Maybe you could cram in 11 of these vs 10 .357s. Is that enough reason to bother?0 -
I was just wondering. I was thinking about the Ruger new model Blackhawk. Eight shot and if I bought it I like to have a lever companion to go with it. I have a Single Six and a Marlin 39 to go with it and a Blackhawk .357 with a Rossi 92 to go with that. So I don't see what the 327 could do that those couldn't, except fall in between the two in diameter. I think new guns and ammo are like what I've heard about fishing lures and rods and reels, they aren't made to catch fish just the fisherman. Between the two, guns & ammo and fishing gear, they won't be happy till they have ALL my $. 0 -
.327 federal mag I believe.... Big turn off is it isn't a common round. Unless you are big into reloading and need an excuse to try a new caliber it isn't worth the money. That's my opinion,, and I am right. [;)] 0
