Garand Restorations?

Where is a good place to get one of my Garands overhauled without spending a grand?

    This gentleman has an excellent reputation and has been recommended to me by a number of people, but I have not had him do any work for me personally.

    A lot depends upon exactly what you have, what condition it is in, & what you want done to it.

    If what you have is a "shooter", & you just want it checked out & fixed as required, you should be able to find someone local who can do the job. I'd look for a "service trained armorer", as he is more likely to have all the special tools that many "full service gunsmiths" don't normally have. Anyone you are considering should do a "technical inspection" first, for no more than $100, & give you a written evaluation with a list of needed repairs.

    On a national basis, I'd consider either Dean's Gun Restorations or Orion 7.

    Have a Springfield 1944. Had it for more than 25 years. Great accurate shooter, very accurate, but barrel is wore, stock is beat....other than that looks and operated well.

    Recovering from major surgery and not able to do anything for next six months so would like to have my Garand up and running like new when the Doc says OK to shoot.

    +1 to Mark's suggestion.

    I haven't heard a bad word said about Tim Shufflin's work, and he has the fastest turn-around time on parkerizing jobs, period.

    For what it is worth, I have had two done at Fulton Armory! I called and talked with them and they sent me a "box" to send my weapon to them. Once they got it they contacted me and provided me with several options! When it was all said and done I had about $450 in each, and a couple of good looking & shooting Garands![:)]

    check out CMP. they have new barrels and new stocks at very reasonable prices. give you something to do while you recover! hope it goes well for you.

    You would be way ahead of the curve with value to purchase one of the correct CMP M1s for 1100.00 and keep the 44 just like it is. I think you would be money ahead and look forward to a higher value rifle in the furture.
