870 2.75" / 3" Mag Barrel?
I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 ga. It is 40 years old and will only shoot 2.75" shells. Can I put a 30 year old 870 Wingmaster 3" 12 ga. barrel on it and shoot it safely? I would never try to shoot a 3" shell in it. Thanks for the help!

That would be safe only as long as you were the only person that will ever use that shotgun ! 0 -
The only problems you should expect are in the area of feeding and ejection of the empties. Shell pressures are the same. 0 -
I believe Wilson will convert 2 3/4" Remington 870's to 3" mag. I don't know what's involved in the conversion but believe it is more than just a barrel change.
Seems it would be easier to just pick up a 3.5" gun that will shoot anything and keep the Wingmaster as is.0 -
What you want to do will work fine. That is precisely how my favorite 870 is configured, and like you, I only shoot the 2 3/4" shells anyway. 0 -
Thanks guys you come through again!!! I do not need to convert my 870 to a Mag. I have Benellis SBE and M-1 so do not need old "Mags". Just do a little trap shooting and get tired of picking up sheels so want to use the 870.
As far a pumps go I have a Benelli Nova but sure prefer my old trusty 870! I love my Benelli autos but do not think much of their pump....
I told my son-in law who will inherit the 870 someday about the 3" barrel.0
