Winchester Mod 06 w/Silencer
I have inherited this 06 from my dad who inherited it from his uncle.
When dad got the rifle it had a silencer that came from the factory
as ordered by my dad's uncle. A local police officer told him the
silencer was NOT legal and should be LOST. If it was found that he had
it he would be fined and the gun taken.
Now that I have the rifle I have searched through my dads stuff and I guess he got rid of the silencer. The serial number is 455507 and the end of the barrel has the attached threads for the silencer.
Does anyone make replacements or have access to a replacement?

The silencer in question was most likely a Maxim Model 1910 which cost $3.25, came in it's own little mailing tube with an instruction sheet and saw considerable use on .22 firearms early in the last century. The larger Model 1912 was intended for .30 caliber rifles and cost about five bucks. In most cases an adapter was used to attach the silencer to the muzzle but various firearms companies were known to thread the muzzle when ordering the rifle to make attachment easy. Quite frankly you are up against a major problem if you wish to replace the missing silencer with an original Maxim: These things are highly collectible and command a huge premium. As far as actual silencing is concerned any of the newer suppressors on the market are much better at noise reduction than the old Maxim so if you can live with a new suppressor on your dad's old rifle you will be way ahead of the game. Nwcid is our resident suppressor expert so he can probably recommend a particular brand and model that will work well with your rifle but something along the lines of a Gemtech Outback-II or Alpine will probably serve nicely if it can be adapted to fit your rifle. 0 -
A Winchester 1906 with a factory installed maxim silencer is/was for sale recently for $ 3000.00. The rifle was in 85% condition and the maxim silencer was papered. They are available if you have the time and are willing to pay the premium. Very nice piece of Americana History. 0 -

I don't see prices, probably high; but that gets you the offset Maxim design that lets you use the factory sights. They don't say if they have reproduced the internal baffles or use their own stuff modified offcenter.
I once had a Maxim brochure. They made adapters but would also thread the barrel of your gun or sell you a gun with barrel threaded and silencer installed.0
