338wm from 458wm brass
I have alot of 458 WM brass from use in a rifle I no longer own. I do however have a 338WM can I run the 458 thru my 338 sizing die to use that brass for my 338wm?

I tried to form 7mm Mag brass from my 458 brass. they just mashed in ahead of the shoulder and the mouth split. good luck 0 -
I'd expect problems trying to do it in one shot, though my experience is limited to the .338. Never had a .458.
I guessing that if you had an intermediate die and took it down in 2 steps you'd probably be o.k. though you'd want to watch neck thickness and might have to inside or outside ream to get back into spec.
If it were me I'd cast around on the forums and see if you could find someone who moved up from 338 to .458 and would be interested in swapping brass with you.0 -

Not in one move through one die. That's nearly an 1/8" (0.120") which is too much for one die. The neck or shoulder will collapse.
I try to do about 0.020" to 0.030" per step. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, you may need to anneal.
The necks will thicken up with all this reduction. Once you get the necks down to size and position, you'll need to O.D. turn the necks. Inside neck reaming is not a great idea when compared to turning the outside of the case.
If you have the time and the desire, a project like this can fill your day with busy work and you'll convert plenty of cases to keep you shooting. In my opinion though, this particular endeavor is more than even I care to enjoy. I suggest trading your brass for a like amount of .338 WM brass.
