Need help w/ History & Value of Winch. M1 Carbine

I recently purchased this Winchester M1 Carbine and would like to hear from the experts about its history and value based on the photos. As you can see, it is mostly comprised of Winchester parts, whereas many I've seen are a mix of different manufacturers. I assume that raises the value, correct?

    Congratulations on your purchase; it's a nice looking rifle. And, kudos on the high quality photos, a welcome change from what we usually get.

    I don't know that anyone can give you the history of your carbine, but a good general history & description of all parts can be found in an inexpensive paperback, US M1 Carbines, Wartime Production by Craig Riesch.

    You are correct, many of the parts on your carbine appear original. But, there have been some arsenal upgrades, notably installation of an adjustable sight. It appears that the wood has been replaced, but, if not, it's been repaired & shows heavy use; the metal parts also show heavy use. Still, because it IS a Winchester, your carbine is worth some premium over the more common makers. I assume that there is no import marking on the carbine.

    It would help if you gave the bore condition, as well as the Muzzle Wear measurement (with a Muzzle Wear gauge).

    Hi Neal, thanks for your reply.

    I don't have a muzzle gage, but I bought this with the help of a buddy of mine who was a gunsmith for several years and gave the muzzle a clean bill of health (said there were no problems).

    Also, no import markings.

    What do you think about estimated value?

    Gonna sell it? Place it at auction here on GB, start at $500.00, and let it work up to the fair market value. Market is dynamic (favoring the low side for now), and the bidders are the final indicator of just how much this rifle should sell for. Don't walk into a gunshop with it..or cut the price you will receive by several hundred dollars.

    You can also check auctions (the ones completed-sorted with 'highest number of bids first') to find out just how much a comparable rifle has recently brought in the open market. Best, Joe
