Question on a H&R model 999

Was the 999 ever produced with a matte finish. The serial prefix is AX. I suspect the gun has been refinished but the lettering is very sharp.

  Okvet03,
  AX= 1981 manufacture of the 999.
  I have a 1978 model, and 4 1980 models.
  I am no expert, but I don't think H&R produced one with a matte finish
  None of mine have a matte finish.
  I also constantly watch the auctions for Sportsman pieces in this range of production year, and I have never seen one.
  True H&R experts such as Jim Hauff, or Bill Goforth, may come along and prove me wrong though!

  Never have seen a factory original 999 in a matte finish. Sounds like it has been refinished with guncote or something similar.
